Bruny Island Cruises at the Blowhole

About Bruny Island Cruises

Pennicott Family

Our Family

Robert Pennicott and his wife Michaye Boulter have been operating Bruny Island Cruises out of Adventure Bay on Bruny Island since October 1999. Now in its 10th year of operation, the remarkable success of Bruny Island Cruises can be attributed to the total commitment towards providing outstanding customer service and genuine enthusiasm and passion for Bruny Island and its environment.

Robert Pennicott spent many years as a professional fisherman in the waters he now cruises, making his living from the sea and learning about the ocean and the coastlines of Bruny Island and the south. Using his deep working knowledge and experience of boats, Rob is closely involved with the design and construction of the company’s custom designed highly-specialised vessels.

Michaye Boulter's childhood and early teenage years were spent voyaging aboard the family's yacht, which they sailed across the Pacific from Australia to Canada. An accomplished artist, Michaye's work has a focus on the changing moods of southern Tasmania's sea, sky and coast.

The Company

Robert and Michaye share a strong commitment to developing and presenting high quality experiential travel opportunities that explore the unique marine environments and coastal landscapes of southern Tasmania. The business mission statement is:

"To operate a business that reveals the splendour and wonders of this very special place we call home, Bruny Island, the Tasman Peninsula and Tasmania. We strive to educate and excite all who visit and to create a legacy of conservation to preserve the island we love for future generations. Through our success our ultimate aim is to use our financial success to reinvest into the local community and the environment that we live and work in."

Robert strives to provide outstanding natural experiences for all of his passengers while also ensuring that he is operating in the most sustainable manner so as to protect the environment that he loves. This can be shown in the environmentally friendly boats that he uses and in the creation of the Tasmanian Coast Conservation Fund to which he donates proceeds from his eco-cruise sales to fund important coastal conservation projects in Southern Tasmania. Also important to Robert & Michaye is that they support the local communities that they work and live in through local sponsorships and support of education programs and conservation projects.

Tasman Island Cruises

Tasman Island Cruises

In December 2007 Robert Pennicott expanded his operations in Southern Tasmania to Port Arthur with the launch of Tasman Island Cruises. A very similar experience, this eco-cruise travels between Port Arthur and Eaglehawk Neck on the Tasman Peninsula. Proving to be yet another award winning wilderness and wildlife experience, Tasman Island Cruises was awarded "Best New Product Development for 2008" at the Tasmanian Tourism Awards.
